Name of State Coordinator    Dr. Tex Wariboko


Short Profile    Dr. Tex Wariboko is the Special Adviser to the Governor and pioneer State Coordinator of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), Rivers State, as well as the Chairman of NEPAD State Coordinators’ Forum in Nigeria. He has headed the organization in Rivers State since its inception in 2008, when NEPAD State Office was established in the State to identify, work and partner with the public and private sectors, civil society, and donor/bilateral organizations. As the pioneer State Coordinator, he was saddled with the responsibility of the establishment of NEPAD Rivers State, as an institution in accordance with the NEPAD guidelines, core principles and mandates, which includes the primary objective of the domestication and implementation of NEPAD’s programmes, objectives, action plans and the National Programme of Action in the State. Dr. Wariboko was a member of NEPAD National Working Group. He has been recognized as a UN Peace Ambassador.

Dr. Wariboko attained the degrees of Bachelor of Business Administration and Doctor of Jurisprudence, in the United States of America. While in the USA, Dr. Wariboko was affiliated and held several leadership positions in various professional, community and political organizations, including but not limited to the American Bar Association; American Trial Lawyers Association; African Bar Association, USA (Vice President); Tealbriar Community and Homeowners Association (Board President); Ascension Episcopal School Board; Ascension Episcopal Church Vestry, etc. He also served on the Ascension Episcopal Church (Finance, Strategic Planning, Budget and Membership committees). In addition, he served as Usher and Lay Reader in the church. Dr. Wariboko is also a member of the Rivers State Executive Committee on the 2014 Port Harcourt UNESCO World Book Capital.

Dr. Wariboko was actively involved in civic society and charitable organizations. He served as Board Chairman of the Rivers State Foundation, USA. Dr. Wariboko has a passion for Entrepreneurship and Human Capacity Development, with a focus on innovation. He has a focused vision, passion, commitment and dedication to the development process and Nation building. He has attended numerous workshops and conferences on leadership, business development, strategic policy management implementation, etc., and has provided numerous interviews on radio, newspapers and television, as a Public Policy Analyst/Commentator. He served on the 2010 NEPAD Africa Trade Fair National Organising Committee, and participated actively in key sub-committees. Dr. Wariboko is happily married with children.

Title    1. NEPAD One Million Books for Rivers State

Short description    In line with the NEPAD Education Initiative, NEPAD Rivers State has begun implementation of partnership with relevant organizations to donate about 1,000,000 (one million) Science, Maths, English and other textbooks to primary, secondary and post-secondary schools and libraries all over the State.


The One Million Books for Rivers State project was conceived in an effort to enhance Children's access to books and improve their academic performance and study habits, further buttressing President Goodluck Jonathan's "Bring Back the Book" Initiative. The project also includes donation of notebooks, school bags and other supplies to schools across the State.

NEPAD Rivers State flagged off the One Million Books for Rivers State project, on Thursday the 25th of April, 2013. The flag-off featured presentations of free textbooks, notebooks and backpacks to twelve (12) schools in attendance, spread across the 3 senatorial districts of the State.

After the flag-off, the State office commenced the distribution of the books and other materials to schools and libraries in Rivers State. NEPAD Rivers State has donated books to tertiary institutions, secondary schools and libraries in Rivers State.
